President's Report June 2016

Posted by EAA 538 Webmaster on June 10, 2016 at 9:30 PM Comments comments (0)

Hi Everyone!

We had a great Guest Speaker last month. Mr. Ben Bruce, the Historian for the Archer-Ragsdale Arizona Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen Inc. shared many amazing stories about the Tuskegee Airmen, and even a few which included his own uncle.

BTW, our next EAA Chapter 538 Young Eagle Event will be conducted this Saturday June 11, at KGEU Glendale Municipal Airport, and it will support the Tuskegee Airmen / Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy.

We also heard from Mr. Stephen Bass, President of Copperstate Fly-In, Aviation & Education Expo, who provided us with a brief outline of all that is new when Copperstate moves to KFFZ Falcon Field this year, on October 28 & 29, 2016. Stephen is encouraging EAA 538 members to participate as volunteers in this 43 year old Arizona institution.

Our Guest Speaker for this month is Mr. Ernie Copeland, an FAA Safety Inspector from the Scottsdale FSDO. Ernie will be updating us on some very important changes in the Regulations. You need to know these. And, Thanks to Ed Daror for making the arrangements for Mr. Copeland’s visit.

Ron DeCandia will conduct a Technical Workshop at WestMEC on June 21, 2016. The topic is Electricity, Part II. There was a very good turnout for Part I (way back in March), please plan to attend this session.

Hey! We still need volunteers to fill the position of Webmaster and Newsletter editor. If you are interested, please step forward.

I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday June 14, 2016 @ 7:00pm, at the KDVT Airport Restaurant. Come early if you are hungry, and enjoy the Social Hour starting at 6:00pm. Please plan to attend, and bring a friend!

Thank you for being a part of our Chapter. I hope that you find EAA Chapter 538 to be a great place to meet with like-minded fellow aviators, and to enjoy the personal exchange of aviation information.

PRESIDENT'S REPORT - May 2016

Posted by EAA 538 Webmaster on May 6, 2016 at 2:40 PM Comments comments (0)

Hi Everyone!

We all wish to Thank Mr. Carlos Hernandez, and Congratulate him on his landslide victory and the unanimous election results, installing him as the new Vice-President of our EAA Chapter 538!

And it was a big night last month, as we received a special presentation from FAASTeam Lead and President of the Tucson Chapter of the IMC Club, Mr. Howard Deevers. Howard came all the way up here to KDVT to explain what The IMC Club does, and how it is now a new “division” of EAA. I sense that there is a lot of interest in developing and maintaining IFR skills, and I would like to discuss, with YOU, the possibility of adding this program as a Chapter activity.

We conducted a Young Eagle Event on April 16 @ KGEU. We had a light load on that day (only 40 kids) so we used the opportunity to offer FREE RIDES to our YE Ground Crew and other members of Chapter 538. After the flying activities, we gathered at Chapter Secretary Dave Biddle’s hangar for a Potluck Lunch. I believe a Good Time was had by ALL!

Hey! We still need volunteers to fill the position of Webmaster and Newsletter editor. If you are interested, please step forward.

.I tossed this out there last month, and I would like to follow up on it - We would like to know how many current Projects and completed Homebuilts our members have here at KDVT? Because, we would like to organize a Saturday Parade of Projects Tour, to visit as many hangars as we can, to view the Masterpieces! We will talk about this again on Tuesday.

Copperstate Fly-In, Aviation & Education Expo is moving to KFFZ Falcon Field, and the event will be held on October 28 & 29, 2016. Mr. Stephen Bass, President of Copperstate, will address us this month with a brief outline of all that is new at this new venue. He will also encourage EAA members to participate as volunteers in this 43 year old Arizona institution. As you may know, EAA Chapter 538 has been very actively involved, since the beginning, way back when it was first known as the Arizona Council of EAA Chapters Fly-In.

We have another Very Special Guest Speaker for this month. Mr. Ben Bruce is the Historian for the Archer-Ragsdale Arizona Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen Inc. Mr. Bruce is also the Occupational Safety and Health Manager for the 56th Fighter Wing, Luke Air Force Base (AFB). Ben will be “telling the Tuskegee Airmen story”, “inspiring young people to outstanding achievement and leadership in our democratic society".

Our next EAA Chapter 538 Young Eagle Event will be conducted on Saturday June 11, and it will support the Tuskegee Airmen / Aviation Career Education (ACE) Academy.

So, I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday May 10, 2016 @ 7:00pm, at the KDVT Airport Restaurant.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

April 9, 2016

Hi Everyone!

We have more interesting things on the schedule for this month.

But first, let me remind you of the excellent Guest Speaker we had last month on March 8, Mr. Joe Hauk of New Berlin, WI. Joe has been building a full scale Sopwith Pup replica, and he presented pictures and video of the construction of his magnificent flying machine! The attention to detail was absolutely amazing! I think he inspired many to head straight back to the workshop and get busy.

We also met at West-MEC on March 15, where Ron DeCandia conducted the first Technical Workshop. The topic was Electricity Part 1, and apparently there are a lot of folks that are eager to learn more about the mysteries of building and maintaining an aircraft electrical system. We will schedule Part 2 for sometime in June.

As you know, we have a vacancy for the office of Vice President for our Chapter 538. Our Board has decided that we shall hold an election at this next meeting, on April 12, to fill that position. If you wish to run for this office, or know someone who does, please come to the meeting prepared to declare your candidacy.

We also need volunteers to fill the position of Webmaster and Newsletter editor. Again, if you are interested or know someone who is, please step forward.

.

We would like to know how many current Projects and completed Homebuilts our members have here at KDVT? Because, we would like to organize a Saturday Parade of Projects Tour, to visit as many hangars as we can to view the Masterpieces! Let’s talk about this on Tuesday.

Our Guest Speaker for this month is Mr. Howard Deevers, a FAASTeam lead member from Tucson. Howard is also the President of the Tucson Chapter of The IMC Club. As you may know, The IMC Club has merged with EAA, and Howard will discuss what IMC has to offer, and how EAA Chapters and Members can access the resources of the IMC programs. I think you will find this Very Interesting!

We will also raffle a very generous contribution from Don Ridder – a 4 volume set of (gently used) Tony Bingelis Sportplane builders books. Bust your piggy bank open, and bring $5 to buy a chance to win this collection.

One more item – our next Young Eagle Event is NEXT Saturday April 16 @ KGEU. We have a light load on that day (only 60 kids) so would like to use this opportunity to offer FREE AIRPLANE RIDES to our YE Ground Crew and members of Chapter 538 that have just been waiting patiently for an offer (but were too polite to ask). After the flying activities, we will gather at Chapter Secretary Dave Biddle’s hangar for a Potluck Lunch. A-H entrée, I-P salad, Q-Z dessert. Please RSVP

So, I look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday April 12, 2016 @ 7:00pm, at the KDVT Airport Restaurant. Also, we still have some 2016 EAA Calendars, sale priced and ready for You to pick up. And, there are a few name badges that haven’t been claimed yet.
