Young Eagles Flight November 19th, 2005

Another beautiful day for flying! We had a nice turnout of kids, 44 to be exact, and some great helpers too. We had 11 pilots present and 12 ground support to assist in many ways. It was unfortunate that we had a very late cancellation, but we also had 2 groups that did not show up. If they had all been there, we would have doubled our numbers. All in all, everyone seemed to enjoy the slower pace and just being out at the airport. Our next event is 1/21/06, we hope to be back up at our regular numbers. Thanks so much to the great indoor helpers, they make this all so orderly. Happy Thanksgiving and be there at the December Pot Luck. See you next year!

Young Eagles Flight October 22nd, 2005

It was a beautiful day, in the mid-80’s, and the airport began to fill with future Young Eagles anticipating their first flight with EAA. Our ground crew of 14 dedicated members and friends are the ones who make the day less stressful. The system they have devised to make the day run smoothly is very efficient and easy to work. The pilots on this day and the number of YE were: Dave Biddle/15, John Bombardier/20, Asa Dean/4, Michael Gardner/12, Cary Grant/14, Dee Grimm/4, Norm Hasman/9, John Holt/5, Don McGettigan/12, and Jim Moss/12 for a total of 107 Young Eagles flown. Everyone seemed to have a great day and the reservations for our future dates are already filling up. With it being the national “Make a Difference Day”, I truly feel that we made a difference in several lives. We have been very fortunate to have the helicopter that is on static display offer a free ride to one of our lucky volunteers. This month, our friend and commercial pilot, Cary Grant, was the winner. He seemed to have a pretty big grin on when he returned from his ride. Thanks to Bill for this perk. As if the pilots had not flown enough, they offered to take any of the ground crew for a flight. So we not only had the Young Eagles aloft, but the Volunteer Vultures soaring around too. Like I said, it was a great day for flying. Looking forward to the next Rally on 11/19/05.
